The Visual Arts Intensive is designed to help passionate young artists deepen their skills and refine their craft. In Session I, students will explore chiaroscuro and color theory, working across multiple media—including pencil, charcoal—through landscape and still-life studies.
Session II will focus on En Plein Air painting, while Session III will center on Animal Drawing. The bootcamp will conclude with an on-campus art exhibition showcasing participants’ work.
*0.5 high school course credit offered to qualifying full-day summer camp participants.

Course Overview
Session 1 Art I Group: Light & Landscape
Students will explore how artists create glowing skies, atmospheric depth, and cinematic environments through observational drawing and oil painting. Students will learn professional techniques in light, color, composition, liner perspective and storytelling while creating immersive landscape drawing and painting.
Theme : Sky & Light — clouds, sunsets, light rays, warm/cool color
Session 1 Art II Group: Chiaroscuro & Story in still life
Students will explore the foundations of drawing from line, shape, and form to realism, light, and composition through cinematic still life projects designed for storytelling. Using pencil drawing, charcoal, and painting, students will learn observational skills, chiaroscuro, and professional art techniques while creating imaginative still life artworks inspired by atmosphere, mood, and narrative.

Session 2 Group: San Francisco En Plein Air
Pack your sketchbook and explore the city through art. Students will draw and paint outdoors at beautiful San Francisco locations while learning how artists capture light, atmosphere, perspective, and storytelling from real life. Through sketching, observational studies, and painting projects, students will experience the excitement of creating art on location while building strong artistic foundations and a personal travel sketchbook filled with memories of the summer.

Session 3 Group: Animal Painting
Students will learn how artists capture the movement, anatomy, and personality of animals through gesture drawing, line-of-action studies, observational sketching, anatomy exploration, and painting. Combining quick energetic studies with longer realism projects, students will develop foundational drawing skills including form, proportion, texture, light, and composition while creating expressive animal portraits.
